United States military posts returns, 1824-1850.

This collection consists of a microfilm film copy of the National Archives and Records Administration's microfilm no. 617, "Returns from U.S. Military Posts, 1800-1916," roll 1125, which contains returns for Savannah, Georgia, January 1824-December 1850. Post returns from the early 1800s consist of monthly returns of many military posts, camps, and stations. Returns generally show the units that were stationed at a particular post and their strength, the names and duties of the officers, the number of officers present and absent, a list of official communications received, and a record of events. The returns are arranged by arm of service, then numerically by regiment, then chronologically by date of return. There are no returns for the following dates: April-June 1824; December 1826-October 1827; February-May 1828; June-October 1829; May-November 1830; May-October 1831; February 1836-June 1842; October 1842-September 1848; August 1849-January 1850. These returns were microfilmed by the National Archives and Records Administration in 1965.
